February 6, 2015

Dear Friends,

I am looking forward to seeing all of you in Israel in just under a week! I hope that all of us get through these next few days of anticipated snow without too much hassle. (That's the most we can hope for here in New England.)

As you may know, this is election season in Israel.  In mid-March, Israelis will go to the polls and choose parties to represent them. The leader of the party with the strongest representation among the electorate will be invited by Israel's president, Reuven Rivlin, to form a new coalition government. (I say "coalition," because, since the founding of the state, no party has ever commanded a majority of the electorate, so every government has consisted of a coalition of parties.)

We'll know it's election season when we get to Israel because there will be debates and rallies and, of course, TV and internet commercials promoting one candidate or another. I came upon one such commercial today that was amusing enough that I couldn't resist sharing it with you.

It's a promotional video produced by Likud, the political party led by current Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu.  By sharing it with you, I of course do not mean to be endorsing Likud--or any other party for that matter: I just thought it would be enlightening and amusing for you to be exposed to Israeli political humor. You can access the Youtube video clip by clicking on the icon below:

(Incidentally, when you click on the link, if English subtitles do not appear, you can click on the "CC" icon below the Youtube video clip to make them appear.)

Enjoy, and good luck with your last minute packing!

Take care, be well, shabbat shalom, and l'hitraot ba'aretz, see you in Israel!
